Series “Something Had to Be Said” A Gift (2024)

In the Artist's Words: The poetic gesture underlying this series of works refers to a collection of memories that transport us to the usual, to what was. Why do we pay so much attention to what no longer is? Do we want it to remain, and is that why there's an intention to retain, to stop time? To be an extension. From there, I closely examine the act of hiding and covering underground. Burying. Hiding so as not to be seen, or because it's precious, or because its existence denotes danger. Once covered, it remains suspended. With all this, I'm referring to the memory of things, a memory distinct from the one that exists when we translate the narrative exclusively to ourselves, where memory is recollection. And recollection, according to Peri Rossi, is modification, and since recollection is that set of fictions often motivated by a desire not to let go of something, I'm interested in not stopping there and instead asking: who, or in what way, can we approach the narrative of things? The crack as a symptom, dust as an event, paint as a record. Thus, symptom, event, and record allude to a past that is arriving, something that was and has not ceased to be until now.
