David Rojas

David Rojas's practice explores the instability of images in contemporary visual culture. In a world defined by the accelerated production and consumption of images, representation ceases to function as a stable medium for preserving identity. Instead, images are presented as fragmentary, ephemeral, and in constant reconfiguration.

Her work encompasses painting, collage, screen printing, and drawing, disciplines from which she appropriates and manipulates found images from everyday visual culture. Through processes of cutting, overlapping, erasing, and recomposing, these fragments are extracted from their original contexts to transform into new pictorial structures where figuration and abstraction coexist.

Her series in development POORTREAT reinterprets the tradition of portraiture through fragmentation. While historically portraiture sought to fix identity and grant it permanence, Rojas's works are constructed from visual remnants, displaced gazes, and incomplete forms that reflect the fluid and unstable nature of identity today.

Influenced by the ideas of transience and visual saturation, his practice generates ambiguous visual spaces in which images seem to emerge and dissolve at the same time. Through this tension between recognition and uncertainty, David Rojas invites the viewer to question what remains of the subject when the image ceases to preserve identity and, instead, reveals its fragmentation.

David Rojas is a Spanish artist whose practice originates in graffiti and expands into painting, collage, and screen printing. Through the fragmentation and recomposition of visual material, he constructs compositions that explore the instability of images within contemporary visual culture.

Inspired by the concept of found photo, Rojas recontextualizes found images to create autonomous visual scenes. Their ongoing series POORTREAT It investigates portraiture through fragmentation, reflecting on visual saturation and the changing ways in which identity and representation are experienced today.
