In September 2026, LUMBRE Gallery will participate for the first time in POSITIONS Berlin Art Fair, one of the prominent dates in the German art calendar and, since 2014, an officially partnered art fair with Berlin Art Week.
Founded in Berlin in 2014, POSITIONS was born with the desire to offer a broad view on the transformations of contemporary art and its market, creating a meeting space between established galleries, emerging projects, contemporary artists, and historical positions. In contrast to a market reading based exclusively on big names or trends, the fair is committed to discovery, dialogue between generations, and the diversity of perspectives within modern and contemporary art.
Its thirteenth edition brings together 96 international galleries from 20 countries and it is celebrated from September 10 to 13, 2026 in hangars 5 and 6 of the historic Berlin-Tempelhof airport. With more than 10,000 m² of exhibition space, ceilings of up to 16 meters in height and the monumental architecture of the former airport as a backdrop, POSITIONS offers a unique context to discover the different international art scenes.
The previous edition welcomed more than 30,000 visitors, consolidating the fair as one of the main meeting points for the start of the Berlin art season. Its celebration coincides with Berlin Art Week, which annually gathers more than 140,000 visitors focusing on exhibitions, galleries, private collections, independent spaces, and some of the city's main cultural institutions, including Neue Nationalgalerie, Hamburger Bahnhof, KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlinische Galerie, and Gropius Bau.
Beyond the main fair, POSITIONS develops a program dedicated to discovery, collecting, and new generations. The 2026 edition includes Academy Positions, dedicated to students and recent graduates of German art academies; FASHION POSITIONS, situated at the intersection of art and fashion; and, for the first time, DESIGN POSITIONS, focused on the connections between art, design, and applied arts.
These initiatives are joined by Selected POSITIONS, an exhibition curated under the concept Start Collecting with POSITIONS, which selects works priced up to 2,500 euros with the aim of introducing contemporary art collecting to new audiences. The program is rounded out with talks, professional gatherings, awards, special exhibitions, and activities aimed at collectors, professionals, and institutions.
LUMBRE in Berlin
For its first participation in POSITIONS Berlin Art Fair, LUMBRE Gallery presents a duo by Gerónimo Araquistain and David Rojas, two artists whose practices stem from different languages and materials but share an interest in the construction, transformation, and persistence of images in contemporary culture.
The work of Gerónimo Araquistain explores the material and affective memory of objects through the reuse of fabrics and fibers from second-hand stuffed animals. Recognizable symbols, references to popular culture, accumulation, and repetition transform into compositions that oscillate between painting, object, and sculpture.
David Rojas, whose language evolved from a background initially linked to graffiti, works between painting, collage, silkscreen printing, and drawing. Their practice investigates the way we recognize and reconstruct images, activating references stored in our visual memory and questioning the mechanisms through which we attribute identity and meaning to a representation.
The dialogue between the two artists reflects one of LUMBRE’s central curatorial themes: bringing together artistic practices with their own distinct languages that are capable of generating new interpretations when juxtaposed within the same space.
Participation also acquires a special dimension with the selection of Buit (2026), by Joan Martínez Vallés, to be part of Selected POSITIONS. The work will be presented in the fair's curated exhibition dedicated to promoting new ways of approaching contemporary collecting.
LUMBRE’s presence in Berlin thus marks a new step in the gallery’s international reach and in its commitment to supporting its artists beyond the Spanish exhibition scene, forging connections with new audiences, collectors, and art professionals at one of Europe’s leading cultural events.
