Lava #2 Series (2016)

In the Artist's Words: This body of work is articulated around the observation of matter in non-obvious states of transformation. Through volcanic and geothermal territories, the images are situated at a threshold where energy does not disappear but reorganizes, contains itself, or moves without spectacular manifestation. Solidified lava, eroded mineral surfaces, water seepage, or ice accumulation are not presented as traces of a concluded past, but as expressions of an ongoing process. On these surfaces, the appearance of lichen introduces an almost imperceptible scale of transformation: a life form that slowly colonizes rock, reactivating matter from the minimal. The landscape thus appears as an active system, traversed by physical and biological dynamics operating at different degrees of visibility. Far from documenting the event, the work focuses on its subsequent or parallel states: moments when transformation continues silently. Attention shifts from the event to persistence, from the extraordinary to the latent. In this context, the image functions not as representation, but as a surface for reading. Matter becomes a record of tensions, displacements, and unstable equilibria, where time is not perceived as a line, but as an accumulation. The landscape ceases to be a stage to be understood as a LATENT process.
