MEI EFE

Mei Efe (Madrid, 1980) is a visual artist and communication professional. Her practice spans photography, collage, and video, with a formal focus on fragmentation and proximity as operative strategies.

She works through close-up framing and cropped compositions that remove contextual reference, shifting attention toward detail as an autonomous unit. Bodies and objects do not function as narrative elements, but as sites of tension; the image concentrates on materiality, and the fragment asserts itself as a field in its own right. Within this framework, the hand emerges as a recurring motif: isolated and stripped of context, it becomes an autonomous expressive space capable of condensing gesture, restraint, and intensity.

Alongside her artistic practice, she has developed a professional career in the audiovisual field, working across several communication agencies where she has directed video departments and led projects centered on image-making and visual storytelling.

WORK

In 2015, her work was published in several European magazines, including the Italian publication Vissioni. In 2016, she participated in various group exhibitions presenting her projects Natura, Levita, and Anxiety. Her illustrations have been featured across multiple digital platforms within the creative sector. In 2023, she created the cover for the book Tell Me With Your Fingers with the photograph Blind Hands.

She is currently developing a new body of work in collage constructed from fragments of noise and distortion. This series explores memory as unstable material, using visual remnants to question the transformation of recollection and its ambiguity between the lived and the reconstructed.
